MASSACHUSETTS – State health officials are working to prevent a potential measles outbreak after confirming that an out-of-state visitor with measles traveled through the area earlier this month. The Massachusetts Department of Public Health says the individual arrived at Boston Logan Airport on December 11 and spent the night at the DoubleTree by Hilton in Westborough.
Health officials note that measles symptoms can take anywhere from 7 to 21 days to appear and often begin with cold-like symptoms before a rash develops. They also warn that people infected with measles are contagious for up to four days before the rash appears, see and emphasize the importance of monitoring symptoms and limiting exposure during that window.
