BELLINGHAM — A Bellingham police officer is being commended for her quick actions that helped save a resident from a house fire early Saturday morning.
Around 3 a.m., Officer Thamiris Ribeiro was on routine patrol near Blackstone and Mechanic Streets when she spotted flames coming from the second floor of a home on Patrick Street. While calling for the fire department, Officer Ribeiro woke the resident and helped them safely get out of the house.
Firefighters from Bellingham and neighboring communities responded and had the fire under control within about 45 minutes. No one was injured, though officials say the home sustained significant damage.
