Cohasset opened the D7 semifinal with a statement, scoring on its first three drives and building a 21-0 lead after one quarter in a game that ended with the Skippers dominant. Northbridge was simply outmanned by a Cohasset attack that found big gains at will and finished with a decisive victory.
Michael Wildfire and Gus Greene combined for an unstoppable tandem. Wildfire totaled 236 yards from scrimmage and three touchdowns, while Greene churned 27 carries for 224 yards and two rushing scores. Their production set the tone and forced Northbridge into catch-up mode for the remainder of the contest.
Northbridge finally reached the scoreboard in the fourth quarter when Joel Lachapelle scored a rushing touchdown; Lachapelle finished the night with 151 passing yards and that rushing TD. Mason Mawn connected with Kevin DiMuzio on the Rams’ only passing touchdown, with DiMuzio finishing the night with six receptions for 123 yards. Still, Northbridge’s ground game was neutralized, yielding just 27 yards on 12 carries, and the Rams could not string drives together.
Cohasset’s balanced, explosive attack and complementary defensive performance overwhelmed Northbridge. The Skippers will now face No. 2 Amesbury for the D7 title at Gillette Stadium next Thursday.
