The Northbridge Rams boys soccer team faced off against the Tantasqua Warriors Tuesday night in a much-needed result for the Rams. Northbridge entered the match reeling, 0-2-3 over its previous five and coming off a 2-2 tie with the BVT Beavers, and desperately needed to regain traction.
Tantasqua arrived as a quality opponent, boasting an 11-3-3 record and carrying the No. 6 seed in D3 soccer. The Warriors struck first and made Northbridge work early, but Colby Trudeau answered with an equalizer in the first half to level the contest and keep the Rams within striking distance.
The match stayed tight through the second half, chances traded on both ends, before John Mazzarelli stepped up late and delivered the decisive goal that pushed Northbridge to a valuable victory. The result snapped the Rams’ mini-slump and improved their mark to 9-4-4, a timely boost with the postseason looming.
Northbridge closes out the regular season today against AMSA in a playoff-preview matchup. AMSA sits at 7-7-3 and holds the No. 28 seed in D4 soccer, making that contest critical for both clubs on the bubble. Tune in at 3:30 PM as the Rams try to carry momentum forward into the postseason.
