The BVT Beavers have turned their season around after a sluggish start, stringing together their first winning streak after dropping the first three games. In those early losses, BVT averaged just 4.3 points per game while surrendering 36 points per game. The team’s recent back-to-back wins, however, show that adjustments have taken hold.
Two weeks ago, the Beavers nudged past Millbury 41-34 in a high-scoring contest, and last weekend they followed with a 26-19 victory over Bay Path. The Bay Path game might have been BVT’s best team performance of the year. Running back Bryce Sheldon rushed for 120 yards and two touchdowns, providing the early spark. Lucas Greenstein contributed both on the ground and in the defensive secondary, finishing with a rushing score and a game-clinching interception in the end zone that sealed the win.
Bay Path countered with strong plays, Max Lapriore ran for two touchdowns and connected on a 50-yard scoring strike, yet BVT’s defense forced a late turnover and made the stops necessary to close it out. That defensive growth is the biggest takeaway; BVT limited a capable ground-and-air attack when it mattered most.
Up next is a stiff test: Northbridge visits this Saturday at 1 p.m. Northbridge’s balanced offense will challenge the Beavers’ newly improved front seven and secondary. If BVT can sustain the balanced attack and the improved tackling and coverage they showed in the last two games, this streak has a chance to grow. For now, the Beavers have momentum and confidence after proving they can respond when their season got rocky.
