Uxbridge’s girls’ cross country program opened the season with mixed results in two early meets, showing competitiveness while identifying areas to improve. The Spartans beat the BVT Beavers 22-36 but fell to the Sutton Sammies 37-19. Those early meets give a snapshot of the season: Uxbridge is in most races but needs tighter depth to consistently lower team scores.
Across the two matches, the Spartans average 29.5 points per meet while allowing 27.5, a narrow margin that underscores how close many races have been. Cross country scoring rewards low-place finishes, and Uxbridge will aim to turn those mid-pack placings into top-five results to swing meets.
Isabela Chapman and Abby Spiecker are expected to be leaders the team will lean on through the season, and their performances will be pivotal in close competitions. The Spartans will compete in a Tri-Meet with Northbridge in Hopedale next week, an important early test that will show how the team stacks up in head-to-head competition.
Last year, Uxbridge posted an 11-1 record with a single early loss, so expectations are that the program can rebound if younger runners step up. Fans can catch the Tri-Meet next Tuesday at 4 PM at Hopedale High School as Uxbridge looks to grow from a solid start.
