Holliston center fielder Ben Maiorano has committed to play baseball at UMass Boston following his senior season, capping a strong run of production for the Panthers and his AAU club, the Northeast Longhorns. Ben was a sparkplug for Holliston last year, hitting .423 with a .477 on-base percentage, three home runs and an eye-popping 21 stolen bases. He also posted a .980 fielding percentage, underscoring his two-way value as a contact hitter, baserunner and reliable defender in center.
Maiorano led the Panthers in homers and ranked near the top of the lineup in virtually every offensive category, combining power, speed and glove work into a complete profile that drew interest from the D3 program. With Holliston coming off a Round-of-32 loss to Hanover, Ben heads into the offseason determined to sharpen his tools with the Longhorns and help the Panthers make a deeper run next spring.
For Holliston, retaining a core player of Ben’s caliber, someone who can change games on the bases and outfield will be crucial to returning to the postseason. Ben’s commitment to UMass Boston is a milestone for the program and an indicator of the path local players can take from high school to college competition.
