Nipmuc Baseball Stumbles Twice Before Finale

The Nipmuc Warriors’ baseball squad endured back-to-back losses this week, first falling 5–0 to Blackstone Valley Tech on Monday and then dropping a 7–1 contest to No. 2-ranked Boston English yesterday afternoon. Against the Beavers, Nipmuc’s bats never found their rhythm; Sean Burchard delivered a lone bright spot with a single and a double, but the rest of the lineup was held scoreless. Tuesday brought another tough outing. Boston English’s pitching staff blanked the Warriors over seven innings, limiting them to just two hits and one run. Entering 13 – 5 and ranked second in Division 5, English lived up to its billing, showcasing pinpoint command that Nipmuc couldn’t overcome. These setbacks echoed an earlier roller-coaster on Saturday against the Hudson Hawks. Trailing 5–0 through six innings, Nipmuc rallied to stage a dramatic seven-run seventh, keyed by two-run singles from Alex Varney and Johnny Desmond. That comeback victory underscored the Warriors’ resilience but proved to be an outlier in an otherwise challenging week. Looking ahead to tomorrow at 6 PM on the road, Nipmuc welcomes Northbridge (ranked eighth in D4). While the Warriors’ playoff hopes have dimmed, an upset over the Rams would be a fitting capstone for the season if the Warriors can pull it off.
