The state treasurers of three states including Massachusetts have written a letter to the parent company of Stop & Shop imploring them to head off a pending strike by the Teamsters at their Freetown warehouse which could also lead to the Food and Commercial Workers Union also walking off the job. Stop & Shop reportedly wants to eliminate union health insurance with the next Teamsters contract and has said if the Teamsters don’t agree they will move the warehouse. The treasurers of Massachusetts, Connecticut and Rhode Island say a strike impacting over 30,000 workers would have far-reaching operational and economic consequences across New England.
