A mechanical issue is said to be the cause of a car going up in flames in Hopkinton Monday. Hopkinton firefighters responded to the heavy fire on Chestnut Street around 2pm on Monday. HFD Fire Lt John Sheridan tells the Hopkinton Independent the driver reported the mechanical issue just before the car went up and became engulfed in a few minutes. He was not hurt. Hopkinton Fire brought an engine and a tanker had it under control in about ten minutes. The car was apparently a former police car.
