The 2026 FIFA World Cup group stage came to an exciting conclusion, with the final teams securing their places in the Round of 32.

Croatia handed Ghana its first defeat of the tournament, earning a 2-1 victory to finish second in the group. England also wrapped up group play in style, defeating Panama as Harry Kane scored the goal that made him England’s all-time leading international goal scorer. England claimed first place in the group, while Ghana advanced as one of the tournament’s best third-place finishers.

Colombia and Portugal battled to a scoreless draw in one of the day’s most competitive matches. Colombia thought it had found a late winner, but the goal was overturned for a narrow offside call. Meanwhile, DR Congo rallied from an early deficit to defeat Uzbekistan 3-1 behind a pair of goals from Yoane Wissa. Colombia finished atop the group, Portugal claimed second, and DR Congo advanced as a third-place qualifier.

Defending champion Argentina closed out group play with a 3-1 victory over Jordan. Lionel Messi extended his remarkable streak by scoring in his seventh consecutive World Cup match, while all three Argentine goals came from set pieces, including two free kicks and a penalty.

Algeria and Austria played one of the day’s most dramatic matches. Algeria appeared to have secured victory with a stoppage-time goal, but Austria answered moments later with a crucial equalizer that was enough to send both nations through to the knockout stage. Argentina, Austria, and Algeria all advanced from the group.

The knockout stage officially begins today as the Round of 32 gets underway.

The opening match features South Africa taking on Canada at 3 p.m., with a place in the Round of 16 on the line.
