Belgium produced one of the greatest comebacks in World Cup history against Senegal. Trailing 2-0 late in the match, substitute Romelu Lukaku sparked the comeback before Youri Tielemans equalized just three minutes later to force extra time. Deep into the second extra period, Tielemans converted a penalty in the 120th minute plus stoppage time to score the latest game-winning goal in FIFA World Cup history, sending Belgium into the Round of 16.
The United States also moved on after defeating Bosnia and Herzegovina 2-0. Folarin Balogun broke the deadlock just before halftime, and despite going down to 10 men following a controversial red card in the 64th minute, the Americans never lost control. Malik Tillman sealed the victory with a brilliant free kick, sending the U.S. into the Round of 16 in convincing fashion.
The knockout stage continues today with three more marquee matchups.
Spain faces Austria at 3 p.m., followed by a clash between former Real Madrid teammates as Cristiano Ronaldo and Portugal take on Luka Modrić and Croatia at 7 p.m. The day’s action concludes at 11 p.m. when Switzerland meets Algeria for the final spot in the Round of 16.
