Meteor Lights Up Skies Across Massachusetts

MILFORD – Security cameras across Massachusetts, including in Milford, captured footage of a meteor streaking across the sky Saturday afternoon. Officials with NASA and the American Meteor Society confirmed the fireball broke apart at an altitude of about 40 miles above Massachusetts.

The meteor was reportedly seen and heard from as far away as Montreal and Delaware, with residents reporting loud booms and even feeling the ground shake. Experts say the sounds were caused as the approximately three-foot-wide space rock entered Earth’s atmosphere. Officials believe any surviving fragments likely landed in the ocean and do not think the meteor reached the ground.
