MENDON – Mendon officials reportedly are working toward bringing a proposed bylaw governing law enforcement surveillance cameras before voters at the town’s Special Town Meeting next month.
According to the Mendon Commons, the Select Board plans to work toward having a proposal ready as a warrant article for the October 27th Special Town Meeting.
The General Bylaws Review Committee is expected to research the issue as communities across the region reconsider their use of surveillance technology, including automated license plate readers. Several nearby towns recently have ended contracts with Flock Safety amid concerns surrounding the collection, use and storage of data.
The process of developing Mendon’s proposed bylaw is expected to include public input before a final proposal is brought forward.
