HOPKINTON – Hopkinton residents looking to conserve water around their homes can take advantage of a community discount on rain barrels.

Hopkinton has joined other MetroWest communities in partnering with The Great American Rain Barrel Company to offer residents discounted 60-gallon rain barrels. The barrels collect rainwater that can later be used for gardens and landscaping, reducing the amount of treated water needed outdoors.

According to the Hopkinton Independent, the barrels are repurposed from shipping drums and are available to residents for approximately $85 each.

Orders must be placed through the Great American Rain Barrel Company by September 16th. Residents who participate will be able to pick up their rain barrels at the Hopkinton Department of Public Works on September 26th.
