HOPKINTON – A Hopkinton man charged with attempted murder following an incident at Lake Maspenock last week has been released on bail. A judge ruled Friday that 70-year-old Steven Dana does not pose a danger to the community at large.

Dana pleaded not guilty to the charges. Prosecutors allege he was involved in a confrontation at Sandy Beach in which he appeared to hold another man underwater. His attorney argued Dana had been provoked. The judge set bail at $7,500 and ordered Dana to have no contact with the alleged victim and to stay away from Sandy Beach while the case proceeds.
