HOPKINTON – A grand jury will decide whether a Hopkinton man should face an attempted murder charge stemming from an alleged assault at Sandy Beach last month.

Steven Dana appeared in court Monday for a probable cause hearing on allegations that he strangled another man and held him underwater during an altercation at Lake Maspenock. Dana has pleaded not guilty, and his attorney argued that the alleged victim’s account of the incident contained inconsistencies.

According to the Hopkinton Independent, a judge granted the Worcester County District Attorney’s Office a 60-day continuance to present the case to a grand jury. Dana is scheduled to return to court at the end of September.
