BELLINGHAM – State drought conditions have prompted Bellingham officials to implement stricter water conservation measures.

Under a Level 2 Significant Drought, all nonessential outdoor water use is prohibited. Residents may continue watering ornamental plants and flower gardens only through drip irrigation systems, hand-held hoses, or watering cans.

Officials are also encouraging residents to repair indoor leaks, noting that toilets, faucets, and showers account for a significant portion of household water consumption. Businesses are being asked to conduct water audits to identify leaks and conservation opportunities.
