The Baypath Humane Society of Hopkinton will be moving forward with construction of a new animal shelter on Fruit Street. BHS has raised $5 million toward the building and the Town of Hopkinton has given final approvals, so work could begin later this year. The Worcester Business Journal reports the nonprofit is looking to expand from its current 2,480-square-foot shelter into a 8,200-square-foot shelter with on-site medical care and educational training areas. The Town has reportedly given the shelter a 50-year lease on the land which used to be a metal recycling site.
