Uxbridge’s girls tennis team stayed hot yesterday afternoon with a dominant 5-0 sweep of Blackstone-Millville. The Spartans were in control from start to finish and rarely gave the Chargers a chance to settle into any of the matches.
Erin Roche led the way at first singles with a 6-1, 6-0 win, while Sophia Simpson followed with a 6-0, 6-0 victory at second singles. Sophia Freire added another point with a 6-0, 6-1 win at third singles. In doubles, Jordan Hilgenberg and Niamh McSweeney won their first doubles match 8-1, and Avery Wood and Zooey Pominville completed the sweep with an 8-0 win at second doubles. Uxbridge dropped only three sets across the entire match, a strong sign of how well the team is playing across the board.
The victory moves Uxbridge to 5-1 on the season and gives the Spartans three straight wins after their loss to Doherty earlier in the year. That kind of response has helped the team build momentum and confidence as the season progresses.
Uxbridge now turns to Worcester North, where it will be favored once again. The Polar Bears are 0-3 but have played a difficult schedule, so the Spartans will still need to bring the same energy and focus if they want to keep this run going.
