FOXBOROUGH — The New England Patriots opened their 2026 preseason schedule with a 13-13 tie against the Indianapolis Colts Thursday night at Gillette Stadium, giving the coaching staff its first extended look at several players competing for roles ahead of the regular season.
New England finished the night with 192 passing yards and 83 rushing yards, with the offense showing flashes through the air but struggling to consistently move the ball on the ground.
Quarterback Tommy DeVito led the Patriots’ passing attack, completing 13 of 22 passes for 138 yards and one touchdown. DeVito finished with a 92.6 passer rating and provided New England’s lone passing score of the night.
Behren Morton also saw time under center, completing 7 of 13 passes for 66 yards. Neither Patriots quarterback threw an interception.
The receiving corps featured several contributors, led by Kobe Prentice, who caught three passes for 40 yards. Lan Larison hauled in six receptions for 38 yards, while Kyle Williams made two catches for 37 yards and scored New England’s only receiving touchdown.
On the ground, Jam Miller paced the Patriots with 55 yards on 14 carries, averaging 3.9 yards per attempt. New England finished with 83 rushing yards on 32 attempts and did not score a rushing touchdown.
The Patriots led 10-7 at halftime before Andy Borregales knocked in a field goal in the third quarter to make it a 13-7 lead. Indianapolis answered with six points off two field goals in the 4th quarter, including the tying kick from Spencer Shrader with 1:16 remaining.
The Pats had an opportunity to win the contest, but Borregales pulled a 49-yard attempt wide left, ending the game in a tie as there is no overtime in preseason games.
The game served primarily as an evaluation opportunity for players battling for roster spots, backup roles and positioning on the depth chart as the Patriots continue through training camp.
New England will now turn its attention to the next stage of the preseason as they host the Philadelphia Eagles on Saturday, August 22 at 7:00pm.
