MILLBURY, MASS. — The Millbury Woolies continued their postseason surge on Thursday, defeating Wahconah Regional, 10-0, in the MIAA Division 4 Round of 16.
Millbury’s offense wasted little time setting the tone, scoring three runs in the first inning and proceeding to score in each subsequent inning, steadily building a lead that Wahconah could never overcome. The Woolies collected 13 hits and used a balanced offensive attack to put constant pressure on the Warriors’ pitching staff.
Nolan Orzechowski and Stephen Wiltshire each recorded two hits and scored twice, while Mason Hubley added a pair of hits and a run scored. Kellen Caron contributed a key two-RBI performance, and David Cadrin drove in a run as part of the offensive outburst. Jimmer Donnelly also helped his own cause with an RBI at the plate.
While the offense was clicking, Donnelly was dominant on the mound. The Millbury ace tossed six shutout innings, allowing just one hit while striking out 14 batters. Wahconah managed only a single hit all afternoon and never mounted a serious scoring threat against the right-hander.
Millbury’s defense backed Donnelly with a clean performance in the field, committing just one error while keeping the Warriors off the scoreboard.
The victory sends the Woolies into the MIAA Division 4 State Quarterfinals, where they will face Saint John Paul II Lions on June 6. Millbury will carry plenty of momentum into the next round as it continues its pursuit of a state championship.
