FRANKLIN – A beloved community tradition is marking a major milestone this year as the Franklin PMC Kids Ride celebrates its 20th anniversary.

The annual event brings together local children ages 3 to 14 to raise money for lifesaving cancer research and patient care at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. Organizers say 100% of rider-raised funds go directly toward cancer research, patient care, and family support services.

Since its founding in 2007, the Franklin ride has raised more than $758,000. Last year alone, 170 riders helped raise $40,000, and this year’s goal is to reach $50,000.

The ride is part of the larger PMC Kids Rides program connected to the Pan-Mass Challenge, encouraging children throughout New England to get involved in philanthropy while promoting healthy activity and community spirit.

Participants can choose from 3, 6, or 10-mile routes, while younger children can enjoy the Tikes and Trikes course featuring fun stations and activities designed specifically for little riders. Riders can participate individually or as part of a team.

The event will also include games, food, music, interactive stations, and a festive post-ride celebration. Top fundraisers will receive special recognition through the Power Pedaler, Heavy Hitter, and Breakaway fundraising levels.

Founder Lisa Marchioni said the Franklin ride was inspired by personal loss and a desire to make a difference.

“I launched the Franklin ride to honor a dear friend who passed away from lung cancer, leaving behind three young children. I wanted to help other families avoid that heartbreak,” Marchioni said.

“After riding the adult PMC myself, I was inspired to get kids involved too. My daughter rode in the Medfield event and was so moved by the experience that she wanted to bring it to our town — and that’s how the Franklin ride was born,” she added.

The event will take place on Sunday, June 7th from 8 AM to 12 PM at Washington Street School.
