UXBRIDGE — Young anglers will have a chance to learn the basics of fishing this fall through a beginner-friendly program being offered by the Upton Town Library.

The library will host “Bobbers on the Blackstone” on Saturday, Sept. 19 from 10 to 11 a.m. at River Bend Farm, part of the Blackstone River and Canal Heritage State Park in Uxbridge.

The program is open to children ages 6 to 12, with no exceptions, and registration is required. Caregivers must attend with their children, as the event is not a drop-off program.

Participants will learn basic casting, fishing equipment, ethics and fishing techniques as part of an introduction to the outdoor activity. No equipment is needed to participate.

Organizers are asking families to dress appropriately for the terrain and weather. There is no rain date for the event, and registered participants will be contacted if the program is canceled.

River Bend Farm is located at 287 Oak Street in Uxbridge, with participants meeting at the visitor center inside the large red barn on the property.

Space is limited, and registration is subject to approval by the library.

Families can register through the Upton Town Library’s online event calendar.
