HOLLISTON – The Town of Holliston has officially gained control of the former Axton Cross chemical company property at 20 Cross Street following a decision by the Massachusetts Land Court.
The abandoned property, which was formerly contaminated, had remained in property tax limbo for years. With the property now awarded to Holliston, town officials say they plan to retain the site for the time being while considering potential future uses. At one point, the property was being considered as a possible location for a new Department of Public Works facility.
While the contamination has been cleared, the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection and the federal Environmental Protection Agency are expected to conduct a Site Assessment of the property.
