HOPKINTON – Hopkinton Police K-9 Kobe will soon have some additional protection as he continues training to expand his role with the department.
Kobe’s handler, Officer Nick Walker, tells the Hopkinton Independent that Kobe is currently undergoing narcotics detection training with the Boston Police Department. The K-9 has already assisted officers with tracking a missing person and locating a man following the crash of a stolen vehicle.
Kobe will receive a bullet- and stab-protective vest through the nonprofit Vested Interest in K9s thanks to grant funding. Once his training is complete, Kobe will add narcotics detection to his duties with the Hopkinton Police Department.
