HOPKINTON – Restaurant owners seeking licenses in Hopkinton will now face more extensive background reviews under a newly approved licensing policy.
The Hopkinton Select Board this week adopted a revised common victualer license policy after months of discussion prompted by a former pizza shop owner who later faced sexual assault charges. According to the Hopkinton Independent, officials believed a more thorough background check may have identified prior concerns.
The updated policy addresses food preparation and service requirements while also requiring criminal history and sex offender background checks for all restaurant owners and managers applying for licenses.
