SOUTHBOROUGH – A man wanted in connection with an alleged counterfeit merchandise scam was arrested during a traffic stop in Southborough.
Police say an officer on patrol Sunday spotted a vehicle that had been flagged as part of a fraud investigation in Newton and conducted a traffic stop.
The driver, identified as Alexandru Ilie, was allegedly operating the vehicle with a suspended license. During the investigation, officers learned Ilie was accused of scamming a victim out of $2,500 through the sale of counterfeit Apple and Rolex products. Detectives also reported finding several packaged counterfeit electronic devices inside the vehicle.
Ilie faces multiple charges as the investigation continues.
