DISTRICT 4 — After nearly two months of American Legion Baseball, the race for first place in Massachusetts District 4 comes down to the final day of the regular season.
Entering Monday night’s slate of games, Leominster Post 151 sits atop the standings with a 19-2 record, while Milford Post 59 is close behind at 18-3. Both teams have one regular-season game remaining, with the No. 1-seed in District 4 still undecided.
Leominster controls its own destiny. A victory over Grafton Post 92 would secure the District 4 regular-season title and the No. 1 seed entering the playoffs.
Milford, meanwhile, will host Main South Post 341 knowing it still has a path to the top spot. Post 59 must defeat Main South and receive help from Grafton, which would need to hand Leominster its third loss of the season. If that happens, Milford would finish the regular season tied atop the standings at 19-3, earning the No. 1 seed, thanks to the run differential tie-breaker.
Both clubs have been dominant throughout the summer. Leominster has allowed just 50 runs while posting a nine-game winning streak entering the finale. Milford has been the league’s highest-scoring offense, plating 235 runs while compiling an impressive +163 run differential, the best mark in District 4.
Behind the top two, Shrewsbury Post 397, Grafton, and Northbridge have all secured playoff positions, while the remaining postseason seeding will also be finalized Monday night.
With first place, playoff positioning, and momentum all on the line, District 4’s regular season is set for a dramatic finish as two of the league’s heavyweights look to carry their strong summers into the postseason.
