UPTON — Local racing history will take center stage next month as the Upton Historical Society hosts a special Westboro Speedway Remembrance Event on Tuesday, July 14.
The program will begin at 6:30 p.m. at the Upton Community Center, located at 9 Milford Street, and will celebrate the history and legacy of the famed Westboro Speedway from the perspective of those who lived it.
According to organizers, the evening will feature members of the Summers family, the sons of former Westboro Speedway owner George “Tucker” Summers, and Ricky Summers, both accomplished drivers on the local racing circuit. Former pit crew members and others associated with the speedway are also expected to share stories and memories from decades of racing days.
In addition to the presentations, attendees will have the opportunity to view an original race car once owned by Connie Lajoie and driven by Tucker Summers. The car will be displayed in its original racing condition during the VFW Car Show in the parking lot.
The event is being organized by the Upton Historical Society and is open to the public. Organizers say the program aims to preserve and celebrate the rich history of one of the region’s most beloved short tracks and the people who made it a fixture in local motorsports.
The Upton Community Center is located at 9 Milford Street in Upton. More information is available through the Upton Historical Society.
