Propane Tank Complicates Response to Franklin House Fire

FRANKLIN – A propane tank outside a home played a major role in firefighters’ response to a three-alarm fire on Elm Street Wednesday night. Franklin firefighters were assisted by mutual aid crews from 13 surrounding departments as they battled the blaze.

Fire Chief Charles Allen said crews initially launched an aggressive interior attack but were forced to retreat when intense heat and flames threatened a nearby propane tank. Firefighters then shifted their focus to preventing the fire from spreading to nearby properties. All occupants escaped safely, and the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
