MASSACHUSETTS – The Boston Athletic Association announced that charitable fundraising connected to the 2026 Boston Marathon reached a record-breaking $57.3 million, surpassing last year’s total of $50.4 million.

The funds were raised through donations and runners participating in the Bank of America Boston Marathon Official Charity Program, benefiting 193 nonprofit organizations. Officials say the total marks a 13.7% increase from the previous year.

Since the charity program began in 1989, fundraising efforts connected to the Boston Marathon have now surpassed $675 million.

“Bank of America Boston Marathon Official Charity Program participants have once again set a single-year fundraising record, leading to an everlasting fundraising impact for nearly 200 organizations within our community,” said Nicole Juri, Director of Development for the B.A.A.

The charity program represented nearly 10% of the 2026 marathon field, with participating nonprofits recruiting runners committed to fundraising for causes important to them.

In addition to the official charity program, the B.A.A.’s own Gives Back Marathon Team raised nearly $450,000 to support year-round community programming and youth initiatives. The B.A.A. Climate Crew also raised $87,000 toward sustainability efforts during its second year.

Officials say the continued growth of marathon fundraising reflects the strong connection between athletics, philanthropy, and community impact throughout Massachusetts and beyond.
