FRANKLIN – The Franklin Downtown Partnership and Franklin Garden Club are preparing for Beautification Day on Saturday, May 16 from 8 AM to 12 PM, and they’re calling on volunteers to help get downtown ready for the spring season. The effort will focus on planting flowers on bridges, barrels, and boxes in front of downtown businesses, with additional help needed throughout the summer for watering.

Volunteers with trucks are asked to meet at 7:30 AM at Fairmount Fruit Farm (887 Lincoln Street) to transport flowers downtown, while others should arrive by 8 AM at the public parking lot near the bridge in front of The Rome restaurant. Participants are encouraged to bring work gloves, rakes, and garden tools, while the Franklin DPW will provide water, hoses, mulch, and assist with cleanup efforts. Students can also earn community service hours, with documentation provided.

Organizers say the goal is to “give people something to smile about as they drive through our historic downtown,” according to Beautification Day Chairperson Eileen Mason. Executive Director Lisa Piana added that the Partnership is grateful for the many volunteers, sponsors, and community partners who make the event possible. Those interested in helping can contact Sandy Sauer at [email protected] or 508-733-8929, and can also sign up for one of the 18 weeks of watering needed throughout the summer.
