MASSACHUSETTS – The state is opening new pathways for individuals to become licensed teachers as part of a pilot program. The Board of Elementary and Secondary Education voted to allow some candidates to waive one portion of the Massachusetts Tests for Educator Licensure by using prior experience, advanced degrees, out-of-state credentials, or a portfolio of subject knowledge.

Officials also approved changes to ease certain communication requirements. The new approach will be tested during a three-year pilot period, after which the state will review its effectiveness.
