Nipmuc’s baseball team continued its blistering start yesterday afternoon, overpowering St. Paul 23-0 in another statement win. The Warriors wasted no time taking control, hanging nine runs on the Knights in the first inning and eight more in the second, turning the game into a runaway before it had much of a chance to settle in.
Josh Giancola delivered another huge day at the plate, going 3-for-3 with two doubles, three RBIs, and three runs scored. Alex Carney, Zach Duplessis, and Gavin Metcalf each drove in three runs as well, giving Nipmuc plenty of production throughout the lineup. The Warriors’ offense kept pressure on St. Paul inning after inning and showed once again how dangerous this group can be when it is locked in.
Cole McGovern was just as sharp on the mound, tossing five scoreless innings while striking out seven and allowing only two hits. His outing helped Nipmuc pair dominant pitching with explosive hitting, which is a combination that has worked well through the first five games of the year.
The win moves Nipmuc to 4-1 and gives the Warriors two straight blowout victories. They will face Hudson tomorrow at 4 p.m. in what should be a stronger test. The Hawks are 5-0 and are coming off a 7-5 win over Oakmont, so Nipmuc will need another focused effort to keep the momentum going.
