Nipmuc’s baseball team put together a strong comeback Monday afternoon, defeating Blackstone Valley 16-7 after trailing early in the game. The Beavers jumped out to a 7-5 lead after the second inning, but Nipmuc flipped the momentum with a huge six-run fourth inning and never looked back.

Josh Giancola had a standout performance for the Warriors, going 3-for-4 with a double, three RBIs, and 11 strikeouts over six innings on the mound. Sean Burchard also delivered a big offensive night, finishing 2-for-4 with a home run and three RBIs. Alex Varney added two doubles to help keep pressure on Blackstone Valley throughout the lineup, and Nipmuc’s depth allowed it to keep piling on runs after the early hole.

The win moves Nipmuc to 3-1 and gives the Warriors a strong platform heading into today’s matchup with St. Paul at 3:45 p.m. St. Paul has struggled to start the year, sitting at 0-2 after an 11-4 loss to AMSA and a 15-3 loss to Hopedale. Nipmuc should have the edge on paper, but the Warriors will still need to stay sharp after a big win to keep the momentum rolling.
