SOUTHBOROUGH — Voters at a Special Town Meeting have approved a plan to replace the aging roof at Neary Elementary School.
According to The Community Advocate, the meeting approved a $4.5 million borrowing request to install a new roof that would extend the building’s life for several more years. However, the project is not yet finalized and still requires approval through a town-wide debt exclusion vote scheduled for May.
Last year, voters rejected a $108 million proposal to build a new elementary school. With Neary’s roof now more than 16 years beyond its expected lifespan and experiencing leaks, town officials described the replacement as a temporary solution.
