The No. 16-seeded Blackstone Valley boys hockey team saw its season end in overtime after a tightly contested Round of 32 matchup against the No. 17-seeded Lynnfield. The Beavers finished the regular season with an 11-5-2 record and entered the postseason with high expectations, but an overtime tally by the Pioneers ended Blackstone Valley’s tournament run.

The game was a defensive battle for long stretches, settling into a 1-1 tie through regulation as both teams struggled to create clean looks. In overtime, the Pioneers capitalized on a chance to advance, and Lynnfield moves on to face the winner of No. 1 Hanover and No. 33 Easthampton. Blackstone Valley can take positives from an improved season performance and from advancing its competitiveness compared with last year’s No. 25 seed standing, and the program will look to build on this near-miss as it aims to break through to that elusive postseason victory. Either way, the Beavers should be proud of their season, despite the disappointing end last night.
