MILFORD — Town Meeting voters have unanimously approved using eminent domain to acquire a property next to the police station.
The single article on the warrant at this week’s Special Town Meeting asked whether the Town should move forward with taking the property by eminent domain for public use. Several dozen voters in attendance agreed that the land is needed to expand the Milford Police Station.
The property has been on the market since June, but officials said the Town was unable to reach an agreement with the owner. Under the approved measure, the Town will acquire the property and pay the owner $520,000, which officials say reflects fair market value.
The home was already vacant, so no one will be displaced as a result of the decision.
