MILFORD – A Milford Highway Department plow driver is being credited for helping police stop an alleged drunk driver during dangerous winter conditions Monday night.
Police say the plow driver called in a report about a suspected impaired driver at the intersection of Water and Main streets during snowy and icy conditions. Officers responding to the area caught up with the vehicle, which reportedly stopped in the middle of the roadway. As a police cruiser approached, the driver allegedly accelerated forward and struck the cruiser.
According to police, Edgar Cacuango was taken into custody after officers searched his vehicle and found several beer cans inside. Police say Cacuango later took a voluntary breath test and allegedly registered a blood alcohol level approximately twice the legal limit.
No serious injuries were reported. Police credited the alert plow driver for helping prevent a potentially more serious incident during hazardous road conditions.
