HOPKINTON – Hopkinton’s Water and Sewer Manager is offering guidance to residents on how to prevent frozen pipes during the cold weather and what to do if freezing occurs. Jed Fenneuff says homeowners should take time today or Saturday to check for water pipes that may be exposed to freezing temperatures, including those near cellar windows, along outside walls, or under cellar stairs, and insulate them if needed.
Fenneuff says if pipes do freeze, they should be warmed slowly, and residents should never use a torch or any direct flame, as that can cause pipes to burst. He adds that residents who need assistance are encouraged to contact the Hopkinton Water Department for help.
