UXBRIDGE – Uxbridge Police Officer Stephen LaPorta has been laid to rest. Hundreds of people turned out Thursday to honor the fallen officer, including Massachusetts Governor Maura Healey, as services were held at St. Mary’s Church in Franklin and along the procession route to the cemetery.

LaPorta lost his life after being hit by a truck while helping stranded motorists in the middle of the night along an icy highway last week. The solemn procession drew residents, first responders, and law enforcement agencies from across the region, all paying their respects to an officer described as dedicated and selfless.

The crash that claimed Officer LaPorta’s life remains under investigation. He is remembered not only for his service to the Town of Uxbridge, but also for the impact he made throughout the communities he served.

Officer LaPorta leaves behind a wife and a 13-year-old son.
