MEDWAY – After nearly 17 years, a stolen University of New Hampshire football championship ring has been returned to its rightful owner thanks to the persistence of a Medway police officer.

Medway Police say the ring was stolen in 2009 during a series of home break-ins across the MetroWest area. At the time, then-dispatcher Ryan Ober worked extensively to try to identify and locate the owner, but the investigation eventually went cold. Now a sergeant and Medway PD’s Evidence Custodian, Ober recently came across the ring again and decided to renew the search. With help from UNH, which provided digital copies of old yearbooks, Sergeant Ober was able to identify the former player and return the ring to him just before Christmas.
