MASSACHUSETTS – Players in the East Coast Hockey League, also known as the ECHL, are on the brink of a strike as negotiations over a new collective bargaining agreement reach a critical point. The Professional Hockey Players Association says that if an agreement is not reached with the league by Friday, players would walk out before Friday night’s games.
The league and the union have been negotiating a new deal since January of last year, but talks have recently become more contentious. The players’ association has accused the league of unfair bargaining practices, while emphasizing that any agreement must support what it calls a sustainable business model for players and teams moving forward.
