PROVIDENCE — Brown University has placed its Chief of Police on leave as the school investigates the circumstances surrounding a recent campus shooting that killed two students.
The university’s president said an initial review found that Brown’s surveillance systems were not fully up to date and that emergency notifications warning the campus about the shooter were delayed. In addition, a university custodian told local Providence media outlets that he had alerted officials multiple times in the days leading up to the shooting about a suspicious man on campus.
The internal review remains ongoing as the university continues to examine how the situation was handled and what changes may be needed moving forward.
