MEDWAY — A wood stove may be responsible for a garage fire that sent a Medway resident to the hospital and killed eight cats. Medway firefighters responded to the home on Evergreen Street around 11:30 a.m. for a fire in a detached garage at the property, which officials say dates back about 175 years.
Fire officials say the garage is located roughly 20 feet from the main house, prompting firefighters to immediately focus on preventing the flames from spreading to the home. The resident was treated for smoke inhalation, and firefighters remained on scene for several hours as crews worked to fully extinguish the fire and secure the area.
