HOPKINTON — The annual holiday lights on the Town Common are back on thanks to a public donation of more than $10,000 that the Parks & Recreation Commission has officially accepted.
According to the Hopkinton Independent, the lights had previously been cut from the budget after the installation contractor increased their rate from $9,500 to $14,000, prompting Parks and Rec to drop the expense earlier this year. However, the contractor later agreed to honor the lower price, reopening the possibility of moving forward.
That’s when a grassroots fundraiser—organized by a local resident—stepped in, raising the full amount needed to cover the cost. The donated funds will now allow the holiday lights tradition to continue uninterrupted.
