Hopkinton Officials Urge Attendance at Tonight’s Special Town Meeting to Avoid Higher Tax Rate

HOPKINTON — There’s only one article on the warrant, but tonight’s Special Town Meeting is being called a critical one as officials work to ensure a quorum.

The meeting is being held to lower the 2026 town budget after updated estimates came in lower than expected, allowing the town to reduce next year’s tax rate. But that can only happen if enough voters show up.

Town officials say at least 131 voters must be present for the meeting to proceed. If the budget is not reduced tonight due to lack of quorum, the higher tax rate currently in place will be set by default.

The Special Town Meeting begins at 7 p.m. at Hopkinton High School. Officials are urging residents to attend to ensure the vote can be held.
