Uxbridge girls basketball coach John Gniadek was named D4 Coach of the Year by the Massachusetts Basketball Coaches Association following a breakout campaign last season. Gniadek’s Spartans won the Clarke Tournament Small Division and reached the Round of 16 before bowing to eventual D4 champion Cathedral, and his leadership was cited as central to the team’s growth.

The program’s schedule for the upcoming season was released this week. Uxbridge, now competing in CMAC B, opens at Douglas on December 12 and then faces Quaboag on December 15, Sutton on December 17, Northbridge on December 19, Nipmuc on December 22, Maynard on December 29, and a TBA matchup on December 30. The Spartans begin the new year at Bay Path on January 7, visit Notre Dame on January 9, and play Tantasqua on January 12.

Second-half dates include AMSA on January 16, Bay Path on January 20, St. Paul on January 21, Tantasqua again on January 30, AMSA on February 4, St. Paul on February 6, Millbury on February 9, and the regular-season finale at Auburn on February 11.

Uxbridge will lean on the continuity created by Gniadek’s coaching and last year’s success as it prepares for a challenging slate that includes Notre Dame, Northbridge, and Maynard, teams that figure to test the Spartans as the season progresses.
