Top-seeded North Reading rallied to upset No. 4 Medfield in a classic Division 5 quarterfinal, overcoming an early Medfield surge to prevail and advance. Medfield controlled the first half, building a 20-7 lead thanks to a physical rushing attack and solid execution. Matteo Benson accounted for two rushing touchdowns as Medfield looked poised to control the game.
The second half belonged to North Reading. The Hornets forced three straight three-and-outs from Medfield to open the third quarter and then seized momentum in the fourth with an Otto Indelicato rushing touchdown that put North Reading ahead. In the final moments, Medfield reached the Hornets’ 18-yard line and threatened to reclaim the lead, but Anthony Tammaro batted down the decisive pass to secure the upset.
For Medfield, it was a frustrating finish to a season that produced many highlights. The Warriors cut the halftime deficit with grit but could not sustain drives in the second half. North Reading moves on to the semifinals while Medfield prepares for its Thanksgiving clash with Dover-Sherborn and reflects on a campaign that will serve as a platform for next season.
